3. Ice-cream (mirozhna in Russian) machine at every corner, especially in Khorog.

After spending 2 weeks in Dushanbe, unable to get a visa to China, we had enough. Too much city-time, and too much food. Solution: head to the Pamirs.
A 24 hour, 130 Somoni and a few broken bones later we got to Khorog, the Pamiri regional capital. Transport to Khorog leaves from the Badakhshanskaya Avstonitsiya, which is on [...]

After 10 days of site-seeing in Uzbekistan it was time to get to the real thing. trekking in central Asia. a marshutka from the Registan stop, Samarkand (3,000 Sum, 30 minutes) took us to the Tajik border. the Uzbek guards didn’y even check the registration slits (which we had for almost every night) and made [...]

I am now sitting at the top of Allaudin Pass in the Fan mountains. it is not the highest, and not the lowest. a pass. it is the pass where I have some time to write.

We made our Tajik visa in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. the embassy (Abdullah Qahur AttaVI 61, 11AM-1PM Monday-Friday) is not too far from the Tashkent (train station) metro station. Tashkent is the name of the station. the guard reffered us to a small office near the embassy where Pamir Travel is situated. they charge 135$ per person [...]
