Osh: Osh Guesthouse: 220 Som dorms, double rooms available, the dorms are 3 bed rooms anyway. a small kitchen and laundry service (55 Som per Kg), it has a few apartments. it’s very hard to find. when you walk on Kyrgyzstan Str. up North from Zaina Betinova you will see on the left side a long row of Chaikhanas. after that, on your left, there will be a double row of kiosks. cross it and turn right at the garbage dumpster. the second building on your left, third entrance (after something resembling an iron cage), top flour. somebody wrote Osg GH on the door.
Arslanbob: Mukhtar (don’t know last name) homestay: 350/300 Som for sleeping. hot shower if you ask for one, food is available, though meals are not generous. the garden has a great sitting table for meals. Mukhtar agreed with us for 300 Som including meals, and tried to extort an extra 100 when we left, saying food was extra. finding: about 500 meters down from the center there is a blue poster and a small bus station. turn right (comming from the center) and follow untill the last house on the right. personally, I don’t recommend.
Jalal-Abad: A small hotel next to the CBT office. Toktogul 3-20. it has a small Gostinitza sign and no more. the entrance is around the back. 250 Som per room (not person) will get you a double bad (sofa) and bad tapestry walls. a padlock on the door is no great assurance. the bathroom is discusting and a shower is existant. not a greeat find, but what did you expect for 250Som per room? the homestay down the street, Matylda’s, asked for 500Som!!!
Arkit: Mazetov Amapgeldy homestay. a small delightful Kyrgyz family, 100 Som for sleeping, 50 Som dinner, 30 Som breakfast. 10 Som bread. no shower, an outside toilet. very nice and the husband speaks some English. it’s the one with the bliue Gostinitza sign on the west side of the main road.
Bishklek: Nomad guesthouse: 200 Som, food is available (70 Som breakfast, 200 Som dinner), hot shower and one toilet. possible to sleep in a yurt. double room available. finding: when at the StaryVagzal (East or old Bus station) cross the big parking lot above the marshutka stands (west of the main building), one of the streets is bloxked by a sand pile, take it. the blue gate on your left is it.
Karakol: Yak Tours Hostel: Gagarin 10, 300 Som per person in dorms. pitching your tent is 50Som. nice English speaking manager. runs a hostel in Altyn Arashan as wll, and can take you up there (25$). he’ll tell you the Karakol valley trek is good to start from Altyn Arashan, so that you’ll spend a night in his guesthouse, don’t believe him. it’s not. the house in Karakol is really old and Russian… the hostel in Altyn Arashan is really close to a free of charge hot-spring. (directions to finding it)
